    METRO AG

BENGALURU, India | DUSSELDORF, Germany: METRO AG has achieved a significant milestone in its digital transformation journey with the successful completion of a large-scale, multi-year data center migration program executed in partnership with Wipro Limited.

The milestone marks a major step in METRO AG’s enterprise cloud transformation strategy, creating a resilient, scalable, and future-ready digital foundation to support its long-term growth ambitions.

The program represents a core pillar of METRO AG’s cloud-first strategy and broader digital transformation agenda. Through the initiative, Wipro successfully migrated METRO AG’s IT operations from legacy data centers to a modern multi-cloud ecosystem using a phased and risk-controlled approach.

“The successful completion of this program marks a key milestone in METRO’s transformation journey towards a scalable, cloud-based and AI-ready IT landscape,” said Khaled Bagban, Chief Information Officer, METRO AG.

“Together with Wipro and our partner ecosystem, we have established a resilient and future-ready digital foundation that enables us to accelerate innovation and drive AI adoption at scale. This achievement reflects the strength of our collaboration and supports our ambition to become an AI-first company.”

As part of the engagement, METRO AG and Wipro have established a future-ready digital backbone designed to strengthen cybersecurity, enhance digital capabilities, improve agility and resilience, and support the company’s AI transformation objectives.

The transformation program has also introduced intelligent automation across several key operational functions within METRO AG, including user lifecycle management.

In addition, Wipro has deployed advanced AI-driven engineering tools to accelerate software development cycles, improve code quality, and enable faster issue resolution.

These capabilities allow METRO AG to identify recurring patterns and systemic issues, strengthening decision-making while enhancing stability and reliability across operational areas.

“Our long-standing partnership with METRO reflects Wipro’s ability to deliver large-scale enterprise transformation with precision, resiliency and measurable impact,” said Omkar Nisal, Chief Executive Officer – Europe, Wipro Limited.

“As METRO enters its next era of AI-powered transformation, Wipro Intelligence™ will play a pivotal role in unlocking greater business value, enabling smarter decision-making and accelerating innovation at scale.”

Commenting on the achievement, Tara Brady, President of Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), Google Cloud, said, “METRO’s successful data center exit is a benchmark for enterprise modernization across Europe. With a Google Cloud foundation, METRO has not only eliminated legacy infrastructure constraints but has strategically positioned itself to lead in the AI era.

It’s a privilege to partner with METRO and Wipro on this journey, delivering the data architecture, scalability, and security required to drive real-time innovation and long-term business value.”

The successful completion of the migration program further strengthens the long-standing relationship between METRO AG and Wipro.

The partnership dates back to December 2020, when Wipro announced a strategic digital and IT partnership agreement with METRO AG.

The collaboration was subsequently extended in June 2025, reinforcing both organizations’ commitment to accelerating cloud adoption, digital modernization, and AI-driven innovation.

With the completion of this major transformation initiative, METRO AG has established a scalable cloud-based infrastructure that supports future innovation, enhances operational resilience, and positions the organization to advance its AI-first ambitions.
